New Training Facility Almost Ready
|The grasses at out farm had a good growing season and are well on the way to providing a variety of densities and fields that we can expose the dogs to. Currently, we are using the fields for continued expose to hunting situations with our young dogs, as the cover is tall but open underneath, which allows the pheasants to run quite a bit. This means that the young dogs need to work and continue to learn how to take moving birds.
In addition to the pheasants that the young dogs are working with, we have the quail course up and running. We have a bunch of young puppies chasing quail through thick and thin grasses, hedgerows, tree lines and creek beds. I am extremely pleased with the variety of cover that the puppies are being exposed to without me having to pack the truck and go to a different state. This should get our dogs better prepared prior to our trips out west.
Our barn is under construction with the exterior completed. The well and septic system are completed and we are awaiting the interior plumbing to be completed so we can get the concrete poured. We hope to have the building completed in late spring.
We are working with Pheasants Forever and Summit Seed www.summitseed.com on the grasses to continue its growth and development. We plan on having two patterning fields, a puppy field, summer field and winter cover.
