WEST POINT, MS – Southern Outdoor Technologies™, the maker of the Sportsman’s Condo™, along with an all-star cast has announced the formation of a new initiative designed to find the Ugliest Deer Stand in America™. It has long been known that hunters will improvise in order to place themselves in a prime position to record that trophy deer. Now, their innovative designs and/or design mishaps are the focal point of this new contest.

The Ugliest Deer Stand In America contest will run from January 1, 2006 – September 30, 2006. The winner of the contest will be judged from a celebrity panel the includes such notables as Tony Rosetti (Former VP of Steyr™ Arms), Daniel Schmidt (Editor, Deer & Deer Hunting™), J.J. Reich (Field Test Coordinator, North American Hunting Club™), J. Wayne Fears (Editor, Hunting Camp Journal Magazine™), David Hart (Buckmasters™), and Steve Barnett (Owner, Barnett Fine Guns). Along with this top-rated panel of judges, some of the outdoors industry’s largest names have also signed on to assist with the overall prize package. They include CVA Muzzleloaders™, The Roost™ Hunting Lodge, Scott Leyseth (The Sporting Chef™), Gander Mountain™, Hunt Fish Cook™ Television, Big Az™ Game Feeders, Flextone™ Game Calls, and Sportsman’s Condo.

“We’re very excited about this contest,” said Mark Bernegger, President of Southern Outdoor Technologies. Being a lifelong hunter, I, like anyone who’s spent time in the field have seen some of these gems barely hanging on in the trees where they’re placed and thought to myself, “there’s no way I’d get up in that thing.” “Now, it’s all fun on the outside when we see the photographs, but there’s also a serious underlying message to this contest…promoting hunter safety. When you see a poorly constructed deer stand, you realize that there’s a good chance that the person using it may very well become a tragic statistic. Our message is that no matter what type of deer stand you have, whether it be a Sportsman’s Condo, another ready-made solution, or one you put up by yourself, make sure it’s safe! As for the contest, anyone with an UGLY stand can enter. Simply go online to www.ugliestdeerstandinamerica.com and submit a picture of your “beauty,” where it’s located, and all contact information. Our panel of judges will be reviewing entries (and laughing heartily) all throughout the year. The winner will be determined in mid-November. They will receive a 3-day hunt at the famed Roost Hunting Lodge & Preserve in Aliceville, AL along with a truckload of other prizes. It should provide for some great times for everyone involved!”
